The floating Advent wreath on Lake Wörthersee is perhaps the largest, Advent in Pörtschach the most peaceful, and Advent in Velden the most inviting, watched over by angels. But Advent at Lake Wörthersee doesn’t need superlatives. Simply put, it is well worth a visit during Advent.
When the shopping zone and promenade in Velden is charmingly lit, the smell of cinnamon, oranges and gingerbread wafts in the air and the snow falls quietly, it’s Advent in Velden. And it is magical, even angelic. The floating beings watch over the Advent market and make Velden a town of angels during the Advent period, with the angel post office, the angel bakery, the angel craft lounge and the angel certificate. It truly is an angelic time all around Lake Wörthersee. Handicrafts and artworks are displayed and sold in the charming Advent huts. There are Christmas cookies and mulled wine and punch. It’s good that Hotel Post in Velden is so central. It’s just a few steps from the Advent market to your room.
A boat trip is a wonderful experience on the illuminated Santa Lucia from Velden to the Silent Advent in Pörtschach. From the landing pier in Pörtschach you follow a path of lights on the promenade to the illuminated Advent village. As the song goes, “All is calm, all is bright.” It is a magical time.
Plan ahead and book your room for Advent in Velden.
